Six-week Online Class

Are you ready to discover the magic of gel plate printing on textiles?
This comprehensive 6-week journey will take you from complete beginner to confident fabric artist, using one of the most versatile and exciting printmaking techniques available today.
Your classes are the most straight forward, linear, honest and worth every penny spent.
I thank you so much for your approach to teaching.
Sally N.
The course includes:
Basic approaches to printing on the plate (A refresher if you already use a gel plate)
Best fabrics for printing and how to prepare them
Differences between paints and other colorants and how to choose the best paint for your project
But that’s just the beginning.
Once we set the stage for successful printing, the real fun begins:
Printing clothing so every detail is perfectly captured in the final print
Every day objects that leave gorgeous marks – feathers, gloves, lace and more – if it has a texture, you can turn it into a beautiful print
Hand coloring on the plate or after the print has been pulled
Collaging papers and other fabrics onto the background prior to printing
Adding collage elements once the print is complete
Metal leaf, metallic powders, Pan pastels and even coloring with eye shadow!
Fusing prints onto a stable background so that stitching and dimensional accents can be added
Adding inkjet transfers to take prints to the next level
The techniques are simple, but the end results are sophisticated and so far beyond a few stamps or stencils on the plate.
What You'll Create
By the end of this workshop, you'll have:
A personal library of unique printed fabric swatches
Multiple finished fabric collages ready for display or further embellishment
The skills and confidence to continue exploring gel plate printing independently
A collection of techniques for enhancing and finishing your textile art
Your class has been such a pleasure to attend, thanks in part to your exceptional teaching abilities.
Even when you need to provide redirection or feedback, you have a remarkable talent for doing so in a constructive, uplifting manner that never feels critical or discouraging. So...thank you!

Start your adventure with solid fundamentals.
You'll learn exactly what gel plates are, how they work with fabric, and master the essential techniques that form the foundation of all gel plate printing. We'll cover material selection, fabric preparation, and core printing methods including single pulls, layering, and those magical "ghost prints" that add unexpected beauty to your work.
Transform the ordinary into the extraordinary.
Discover how everyday objects—from kitchen utensils to garden flowers—become powerful printing tools. You'll explore the difference between capturing crisp detail and expressive gesture, work in series to build a cohesive collection, and begin combining elements through compositional collage.
Take your prints to the next level with mixed media enhancement techniques.
Learn to work with permanent paints, specialty inks, and transfer methods that add depth and sophistication to your pieces. Most importantly, develop your artistic eye for composition and learn the crucial skill of knowing when your piece is complete.

I so appreciate you and your teachings.
It occurred to me like a bolt of light when I was watching one of your recordings lately...Wonderful teachers offer us so much more than academics. You teach us how to live a life of abundance rich in creative possibility and love.

All lessons are pre-recorded and released over an eight week period. There are two “studio” weeks when no new material is released. Students use this time to review previous lessons or catch up if they were traveling or didn't get a chance to watch yet! Also during those weeks, there are 90 minute live Q&A sessions on Zoom.
These are also recorded and dates are below:
• Q&A Session #1 — Monday May 20th 2-3pm CDT
• Q&A Session #2 — Monday June 10th 2-3pm CDT
• Q&A Session #3 — Monday June 17th 2-3pm CDT
After class ends, you can watch it indefinitely for as long as you want.
When we repeat the course you can join the next session for a very small fee (under $30) in order to attend the new live Q&A sessions again, and work on the whole class again with a new cohort.
We think this is the best possible hybrid class model that exists, and our students seem to agree.

There isn ’t any heat press work but all of the techniques could be used in mixed media pieces with the heat press botanicals.
