The focal point of an art work can be thought of as the door into the picture world. This is true whether your work is two-dimensional, or sculptural/multi-dimensional. I’ll talk about how to determine placement for the focal point and also discuss balance at length. Symmetry and asymmetry drive how the parts of your composition work together. I’ll provide plenty of examples, including work from artists in a range of media.
