Paper and Metal Leaf Lamination
Lamination is a unique process that allows an artist to apply text or designs printed on paper to the surface of cloth.
Once the paper is applied to the fabric, the cloth is immersed in water, and the actual paper is removed, leaving behind the imagery that was printed on it. This sounds mysterious, but it’s actually easy once you understand the steps.
I invented this process in 2001, and in this fast-paced one day workshop, I will show you how to laminate paper, and also metal leaf, to fabrics that can become works of art in and of themselves, or raw materials you can incorporate into other mixed media pieces.
In addition to demonstrating the processes of both paper and metal leaf lamination, I will talk about these key considerations:
The best papers to choose for lamination
Fabrics that will succeed using this process
The best gel mediums for lamination
How to apply metallic leaf – gold, silver, or copper – to the surface of cloth
Tricks to create papers that are distinctly your own, so that the laminations you create make your visual story more personal
Layering paper and metal leaf laminations to create stunning fabric surfaces
Stabilizing and caring for laminated fabrics
I’ve been asked to teach paper lamination for several years and am so excited to offer it in an easily accessible format. Sign up now and you will have lifetime access to the workshop recording.
