Suzanne E. - Part Two

“What do I love and what am I good at?”         Week 6 (Cont.)

I began writing when this assignment was posted. I then took a break for a long-planned, 5-day visit with my youngest son and family in Virginia where I played non-stop with my youngest grandchildren ages 5 and 22 months. A joyful time for me! Additionally, I was working against a deadline for an emotion-laden piece I had started months earlier. During 2 ½ days of car riding and as I worked on the piece, I started to re-think my creative habits, goals and desires. After the unmet deadline had passed, I sat again with pen in hand.

Move Within” by Rumi

Keep walking, though there’s no place to get to.

Don’t try to see through the distances.

That’s not for human beings. Move within,

but don’t move the way fear makes you move.

Personal style…

What do I want to do now? Am I through with quilts? Or simply another version of them? Or do I want to only translate photographs into quilts? Or not? Or what? Or perhaps I want to rest in place? Read on the lanai. Watch the beautiful Florida water birds on our lake. Walk with my dog, Sam. Enjoy quiet conversations with my husband. Cook. Entertain friends. Clear out clutter. I am tired of “shoulds.”
