Michelle P.

In my ministry, I love to share the word of God with any and everyone who will listen.  I love reading the Bible.  I also have a love for creation or some may call it “nature”.  I plan to display creation in my work.   I would like to do a series of creation with scenes from fall, winter, spring, and summer.  I am fascinated with the beauty and movement of it all, even the animals.  I love watching the birds.  I always watch, listen, and feed the blue jays and cardinals in my back yard.  But I have never created a bird in my work.  I just remembered that I did a report in school on the tufted titmouse and my dad always brought me Parakeets that I would let out the cage because they were meant to be free.  I can’t believe I am remembering this.  That was a long time ago.

Anyway, someone in the group is creating a beautiful piece of art using birds.  I think its Yda.

I have always dreamed about creating a quilt displaying the waves in the ocean or a beautiful sunrise. To let the cat out of the bag, I don’t know how to make those waves in the ocean nor did I try.  That is not like me.  I always try.  So I will experiment with different materials needed to create some of my designs.  Other materials that I know how to use, I will use them.

I have never done anything like this before.  I have admired other artists work displaying gardens, trees, oceans, horizons, etc.  The AST helped me to connect the dots.  Taking what I love to do in life and display it in my work.  I believe I can accomplish this with lots of planning on my part.

To start this work, I have decided to write down my ideas instead of trying to remember and then get frustrated because I had a great idea that I can’t remember anymore because of the Fibro fog.  I will carry a small pocket size note pad to write down thoughts that pop into my head.  Plus, keep a pad on my night stand because sometimes when I can’t sleep I will think of a design to use in my work.  Next, use my sketch pad to lay out the design.  In addition, I will need to write an outline and brief summary of each piece along with the steps needed to complete my work.  This will help me to concentrate/focus better.  I have let Fibromyalgia take the best of me and I want me back!  I can’t get rid of the dang stuff but I can work around it by writing things down.  My mom use to say…there is more than one way to skin a cat.

Every year, I visit the Peaks of Otter on the Blue Ridge Parkway.  It’s about 40 minutes from where I live and I take numerous pictures of the beautiful trees and their colors.  Also, I go to the beach several times a year to watch the ocean and the sunrise.  I have numerous pictures of both.  I review these pictures over and over but I have NEVER created a piece of art from my pictures of creation.

Deep down inside of me, I had the desire and determination but it never got off the ground.  Timing is everything…..Jane and AST.  A heartfelt thank you to Jane!
