Book Review: Digital Fiber Art

Wen Redmond has written a gem of a book. Digital Fiber Art: Combine Photos & Fabrics (C&T Publishing 2016) is thorough and inspirational. The explanations are clear and the photos support the text beautifully.

Wen addresses a number of topics, including printable substrates, print-on-demand resources, sizing, altering and morphing personal images to get the effect just right. And as is true of any great “how-to” book, the pages are lush with examples of how the author has used the effects she describes to create work which is visually magical and introspective.

A handsome addition to any artist’s collection of resources, Digital Fiber Art goes deeper than merely scratching the surface. It’s a wealth of information offered to keep ideas zinging for a long time. These are techniques that can be fine-tuned to suit the artist using them. Follow Wen’s guidance and then put your own spin on it. The route to making distinctive work inspired by that of the author and artist herself!
